Concerts & Events 2018/2019
Timothy Peters BMus (Hons) read Music at the University of Sheffield and is now pursuing a freelance career as a tenor, choral conductor and composer. He recently moved from Sheffield to a new role in Surrey where he is Musician in Residence at City of London Freemen's School. In Sheffield, Timothy was a tenor lay clerk at Sheffield Cathedral, with whom he has toured internationally, sung for the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh and performed on both live radio (BBC Radio 3) and television (BBC One).
Before University, Timothy was the tenor 1 section leader for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and sang with the National Youth Chamber Choir, with whom he sang on several live televised and radio broadcasted BBC Proms. As a tenor soloist Timothy has been featured on BBC Radio 4 and regularly performs with choirs and orchestras across the north of England, most recently: Sheffield Bach Choir, Sheffield Teachers Choir, The Abbeydale Singers, Bingham Choral Society, Escafeld Chorale, Sheffield Oratorio Chorus, Hallam Choral Society and Hallam Sinfonia, Bakewell Choral Society and South Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, The Chester festival Chorus and Ensemble Deva, and Kantos Chamber Choir and the Northern Ballet Sinfonia Orchestra, in addition to numerous performances as a recitalist. Last November (2018) Timothy toured with Gary Numan as a backing singer on the UK stint of his world tour. At University Timothy was awarded the 'Julian Payne Recital Prize' for obtaining highest marks in first year performance. He was also awarded the 'Associate Soloist scholarship' of Escafeld Chorale.
As a choral conductor, Timothy has directed numerous choirs of all abilities in Sheffield and Guildford. Timothy likes to use his choral training skills to enable welfare and outreach choirs such as Sheffield Cathedral's Young Voices, the Fir Vale Foodbank choir, and the University of Sheffield's Staff Choir. Later this year, Timothy - with the help of Sheffield Cathedral's 'Archer Project' - will be setting up a choir for homeless people. At University Timothy was the Associate Conductor for the University’s Chamber Choir and shortly after was appointed Animateur for the English Touring Opera’s Sheffield production of the Bach's B Minor Mass in November, where he directed the chorus rehearsals. Timothy currently enjoys his role at Sheffield High School as Assistant Head of Choral Music.
Timothy also composes and enjoys receiving various commissions each year. He mostly writes music for choirs, and has had had four works premiered this year. Recently, Timothy has collaborated with composer and producer Nicholas Alexander (http://www.nicholasalexander.org) on an ambitious project to write a series of children's operas. The first of these, Bill Frog to the Rescue, was premiered in November 2018 at Sheffield Cathedral by 200 school children from around Sheffield, accompanied by a 7-piece band.
Timothy has a passion for outreach projects and has recently led a project in northern Uganda (July-August 2017). ‘Northern Uganda SINGS!’ saw Timothy travelling around the northern region of Uganda leading choral workshops as a form of music therapy to some of the most remote and deprived communities in the country.
Other interests include trombone performance, jazz piano performance and sampling real ale. Life Aquatic Band, in which Timothy plays trombone, piano and backing vocals, were signed to English Rain Records and now perform independently. They have been featured frequently on BBC Radio Sheffield and have had a few interviews in various local magazines. Timothy also plays trombone in Straight 8s Big Band, who play original charts and arrangements by Chris Noble (https://www.chrisnoblemusic.co.uk), featuring music by Jamiroquai, Daniel Beddingfield, Tower of Power, and Stevie Wonder to name a few.
